SEVEN PORCELAIN PLATES FROM THE 'TWELVE MONTHS' CYCLE FROM THE COLLECTION OF PRINCESS YOURIEVSKY German, Meissen, after paintings by Ludwig Richter (1803-1884), 1840-1860 Overglaze painting. Each approx. 6 x 11 cm (F. 22 x 26 cm). Underglaze blue mark with swords. The plates depict the months of January, February, March, May, June, September, and December with various children's scenes. Princess Catherine Yourievsky (born Ekaterina Dolgorukova) was the longtime mistress and later the second, morganatic wife of Tsar Alexander II. Following the Tsar's assassination in 1881 she lived much of her remaining life in exile in France and Switzerland, bringing with her personal belongings, including letters and mementos some of which reflected her life with the late Emperor.
