Description
A VERY FINE AND RARE PORCELAIN PLATE FROM THE ORDER (COALPORT) SERVICE SHOWING THE ORDER OF ST. ANDREW Russian, St. Petersburg, Imperial Porcelain Factory, Period of Nicholas I, 1845-1855 Gold and polychrome overglaze painting. The cobalt blue border is decorated with six cartouches depicting the Orders of St. George, St. Alexander Nevsky, St. Vladimir, the White Eagle, St. Stanislaus and St. Anne. Diam. 28.6 cm. The original Order Dessert Service was presented to Emperor Nicholas I by Queen Victoria in 1845 following his official visit to England in 1844. Steinhardt, US Ambassador in the USSR, acquired during his tenure 1939-1941, thereafter by descendance; Christie´s New York, Sale 2308 of 23rd April, lot 179.
