Description
ALBERT HINRICH HUSSMANN 1874 Lüdingworth - 1946 Fürstenberg 'VALKYRIE' (RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES)* Chryselephantine, bronze, dark patina, upper body, arms, and feet carved from ivory, on a naturalistic plinth. Total height 31.5 cm, width 28 cm, depth 12 cm, weight approx. 6.8 kg. Inscribed 'AL. Hussmann' on the plinth. Fully sculpted representation of a female rider on horseback in a dynamic pose with a determined expression, inspired by Richard Wagner's famous orchestral piece 'The Ride of the Valkyries'. Hussmann's equestrian figures are usually only known in solid bronze, so this unusual representation in chryselephantine with carved ivory parts is a rare example. Partial loss of patina and rubbing and restoration. CITES marketing certificate is available. Please note that due to the current CITES regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell objects, unrestricted trade is only permitted within the European Community. An export license is required for shipment to third countries. Please inform yourself about the current import regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell in your country. It is currently not possible to export ivory to the USA, Canada or England. This item is not legal to sell in the UK.
