Description
A THANGKA DEPICTING MAHASIDDHA VIRUPA China (Tibet), 18th/19th century Distemper on cloth, mounted. 49x68.5 cm (64x108 cm overall with mounting). The thangka depicts Virupa stopping the sun, which is entwined by a dragon and bears the face of a Buddha. With inscriptions at the back. With traces of age, partially damaged. Provenance: From a private collection in Germany; acquired in Munich in March 1986. A copy of the original invoice is available.
