DONATELLO 1386 Florence - 1466 ibid (after) RELIEF: SAINT CECILIA 'CONTESSINA DE BARDI' Probably Italy, late 19th century Plaster, relief (Rilievo Schiacciato), framed, gilded columns. H. 74, W 54, D 7.5 cm. Fine relief depiction of Contessina de' Bardi (wife of Cosimo de' Medici) in the role of Saint Cecilia - patron saint of music - as a noble female figure, inspired by Donatello's famous portrait from around 1412. Partially preserved, loss of material, hairline cracks.
