RELIEF: POOR SOULS Southern Germany / Austria, circa 1700 Terracotta, sculpted, original polychrome finish. H. 18.5, W. 11.5, D. 9.5 cm, weight approx. 0.76 kg. Expressive terracotta figure depicting the poor souls in purgatory. The sculpted faces and half-figures are depicted in animated, tense poses, with imploring gazes and arms raised toward the heavens. Blazing flames are hinted at in the background. Part. bumped and damaged, loss of paint.
