LARGE SAINT JAMES WITH STAFF Southern Germany, around 1500 Linden wood, sculpted, flattened and hollowed out on the back, on a pedestal. H. 120, W. 32, D. 24 cm. In the style of Tilman Riemenschneider and his workshop. Impressive depiction of Saint James as patron saint in typical pilgrim pose with wide robe, hat, and pilgrim's staff. The bearded saint with expressive features and late Gothic piety stands firmly with a dog at his feet-as a companion or symbolic motif. Partially preserved, damaged, restored, woodworm infestation.
