PIETA c. 1500 Oak, carved in the round, polychromed and gilded. H. 61, W. 30, D. 25 cm. An impressive depiction of the grieving Mother of God with the body of Christ on her lap. Mary wears a voluminous, deeply folded mantle and a veil framing her head; her gaze is fixed sorrowfully upon her Son. Christ, positioned diagonally across her lap, wears the Crown of Thorns and displays a finely detailed beard and visible wounds. Areas of rubbing and minor damage; restored and re-polychromed.
