MONUMENTAL FOUNTAIN WITH ALLEGORIES OF WATER Italy, 18th century Marble, sculpted, with mounting. H. 183, W. 70, D. 61 cm. Monumental wall fountain with rich Baroque design: a putto supports the shell-shaped basin, above which is centered a strikingly crafted head (presumably Poseidon) with foliage, from whose mouth water flows. Above this rises an architectural structure with a round-arched top featuring two fish in relief and a central trident as a maritime motif. Expressive Italian fountain sculpture from the 18th century with allegorical symbolism. Partially preserved, signs of age and weathering, settlement cracks. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
