MONUMENTAL RENAISSANCE BUST 'JANUS HEAD' Italy, 16th century Marble, fully sculpted, on a pedestal. H. 98, W. 55, D. 41 cm. Large marble bust of the Roman god Janus, depicted with two faces looking in opposite directions. The depiction of the two-faced Janus as a symbol of beginning and end, past and future. Partially slightly damaged, minimal damage, traces of oxidation due to weathering. Provenance: Private collection in southern Germany.
