Description
GROUP OF FOUR SACRED FIGURES South German, 18th century Lindenwood; carved in the round, polychromed and gilded, with flattened backs. Heights: 27, 36, 37, and 44 cm. Convent work featuring a dressed figure of a saint: a richly attired figure-likely the Christ Child or a saint-presented within a glazed wooden shrine. Fully carved figure of the Risen Christ as victor over death: right hand raised in blessing, left hand holding a victory flag with a cross banner. Christ as the Man of Sorrows: an expressive, anatomically refined depiction of the suffering Christ, shown with hands bound before his body and wearing a loincloth. Saint Roch: standing plague saint dressed in pilgrim's garb, complete with a shoulder cape and scallop shells. Showing scattered minor damage and wear, losses to the polychromy, and localized woodworm infestation.
