SAINTED RELIGIOUS FIGURE WITH BOOK South German, 18th century Wood, carved in the round, polychromed and gilded; mounted on a base, flat-backed. H. 55, W. 18, D. 16 cm. Standing figure of a young saint with a tonsure-possibly St. Anthony of Padua or St. Francis of Assisi-clad in a long religious habit with a hooded collar and a knotted cord belt. The right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing or oratory, while the left holds a closed book; the figure stands on a blue-painted globe set atop a stepped base. Shows part. chips and damage, restoration, damaged fingers, and losses to the polychromy.
