BUST OF SAINT LUKE THE EVANGELIST ON A PEDESTAL BASE Southern Germany or Austria, 18th century Wood; carved in the round, gilded, and polychromed. H. 54, W. 40, D. 15 cm. An expressive bust of the bearded Saint Luke the Evangelist, depicted in dynamic drapery. Set upon a richly carved Baroque pedestal featuring volutes and rocaille ornament, with a central bull's head-the attribute of Saint Luke-at the front. Shows signs of wear, minor chips and damage, losses to the polychromy, and rubbing to the gilding.
