GOTHIC SAINT Danube region, around 1460 Soft wood, sculpted, polychrome finish (lustre finish), flattened on the back. H. 87, W. 26, D. 22 cm. Probably Saint Catherine. Expressive Gothic sculpture of a female saint standing, probably Saint Catherine. The crowned figure displays the calm posture and delicate detailing of the garments typical of the Danube region. A high-quality example of late Gothic sacred art. Partial loss of paint, repaired, crown and hands restored, paint from the Baroque period. Expertise: Georg Haslauer, art expert, Salzburg, 1992.
