A RARE, LARGE AND VERY FINE ICON OF ALL RUSSIAN WONDERWORKING SAINTS Northern Central Russia, second half of the 18th century Tempera on wood panel, the background gilded. At the centre of the composition is Sophia, the Divine Wisdom, enthroned; above her appears the Old Testament Trinity, below the Hetoimasia - the Throne prepared for the Second Coming of Christ. She is surrounded by four groups of saints: on the left mainly hierarchs and Fools-for-Christ, on the right chiefly princes, nuns, and monks. 53.5 × 46.5 cm. Literature: E.
