A GIFT FROM THE TVER MANUFACTURING COOPERATIVE: AN ICON OF CHRIST PANTOKRATOR WITH VERMEIL OKLAD Russian, late 19th century (icon); Russian, Moscow, Antip Kuzmichev, 1898 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel, the reverse covered with velvet. The oklad of gilded silver with finely chased relief decoration. Struck with city hallmark, 84 standard and master's mark 'A.K.' in Cyrillic. Partially restored. On the reverse, a metal plaque engraved in Cyrillic: 'For the Partnership of Mutual Aid from the founders of the Tver Manufactory, Moscow, 10 May 1889.' 31.2 x 26.7 cm. The Tver Manufactory was one of Russia's most important textile enterprises. Founded by Savva Morozov, it was divided among his brothers in 1859 and successfully continued by them. The Morozov family is also renowned as among the greatest collectors of French Impressionism.
