LUDWIG HÖFER 1899 - after 1974 QUARTETT VIOLIN, 'ANTONIUS STRADIVARIUS' MODEL Cologne, 1933 One-piece spruce top and maple back, brown-orange varnish; includes case. 4/4 size violin; total length 60 cm, body length 35.8 cm. Label reads "Ludwig Höfer, Fecit Coloniae Anno 1933"; branded "LH". Ludwig Höfer (1899-after 1974) ran a renowned violin-making workshop in Cologne-Nippes and crafted high-quality string instruments based on classical models. A fine master violin by the Cologne maker, crafted in 1933 based on an Antonio Stradivari model. Min. bumped; small, repaired crack in the top, rest. Literature: Cf. Höfer: *Die Geige - Kunstgeigenbau Werkstätte Ludwig Höfer, Köln Nippes* (catalog). Expertise: Original invoice from August 1942 included; certificate of authenticity from Ludwig Höfer (Cologne-Nippes), 1942. Provenance: Private collection in the Rhineland (purchased directly from the violin maker Höfer).
