FINE VIOLIN LABELED 'STEFANO SCARAMPELLA' Probably Brescia, 1909 Two-piece spruce top and one-piece maple back, beautiful gold-orange-brown varnish, modern patent pegs. 4/4 violin, length 59.5, body length 36 cm. Violin label: "Stefano Scarampella di Brescia, awarded silver medals, brother and student of Giuseppe, made in Brescia in the year 1909." Upper width: 16.6 cm, middle width: 11.5 cm, lower width: 20.6 cm. Expressive, exquisite Italian masterwork. Partially restored and bumped; authentic craquelure; crack in the top. Provenance: Private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia, formerly owned by the concertmaster of the Ford Symphony Orchestra, Cologne.
