Description
GERMAN BASS LUTES (THEORBO-STYLE GUITAR LUTES)* Presumably Vogtland, ca. 1935 Spruce top over a pear-shaped body, flat back, 12-string, extended neck with an additional pegbox for the bass strings, carved female head at the neck joint, ivory pegs. L. 117 cm. Large-format theorbo-style guitar lutes with a characteristic elongated neck and separate pegbox for the bass strings. The simple, elegant design, featuring a finely openwork rosette and sparse black ornamentation on the top, is typical of lute instruments crafted in the Vogtland region during the first half of the 20th century. Partially restored and in minor condition. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse. CITES marketing certificate is available.
