Description
FREDERIC SACKRIDER REMINGTON 1861 Canton, New York - 1909 Ridgefield, Connecticut (after) 'THE CHEYENNE' Dark-patinated bronze on a naturalistic base and wooden plinth (H. 4 cm). Total H. 52, W. 52, D. 25 cm. Inscribed on the base: 'Copyright by Frederic Remington' and a dedication. A dynamic, fully modeled depiction of a Native American warrior on a galloping horse. The rider holds a spear in a powerful, forward-leaning posture, while the horse, in a sweeping stride, appears to hover just above the ground. Brass plaque on the wooden plinth with an engraved dedication: 'Best wishes on your retirement from your colleagues in the Bayer Corporation Patent Department'. A later cast based on Frederic Remington's model 'The Cheyenne' (conceived in 1901). Shows some rubbing and minor impact marks; slight loss of patina. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
