Description
HIPPOLYTE ÉMILE LOUIS FOURNIER 1853 Rablay sur Layon - 1926 Gonnord DANCING BALLERINA* Bronze, dark and gold patina, finely chiseled, face and arms carved from ivory, on a marble/onyx base. H. 41.5, W. 22, D. 11.5 cm, weight approx. 4.92 kg. Marked 'H. Fournier' on the base, probably designed by Johann Philipp Ferdinand Preiss (1882 Erbach - 1943 Berlin). Graceful bronze figure of a dancing ballerina, depicted in a sweeping movement, the wide skirt emphasizing the dynamism of the dance. Fournier takes up the popular theme of ballet here and combines elegant lines with decorative lightness. A characteristic example of French salon bronze with a dance motif. Partially restored and loss of patina. Expertise: Certificate of authenticity Elliot-Stevens Ltd., New York, June 27, 2003. Provenance: Private collection, Düsseldorf. CITES marketing certificate is available.
