Description
DEMÉTRE HARALAMB CHIPARUS 1886 Dorohoi - 1947 Paris THE SQUALL / WINTER GIRL* Chryselephantine, bronze, light brown patina, face carved from ivory, on an onyx base (H. 6 cm). H. 25.5, W. 12, W 12 cm, weight approx. 4.27 kg. Marked 'D.H. Chiparus' on the base. Characteristic depiction of a young woman in a dynamic pose, caught by the wind. The dynamic pose, the close-fitting cloak, and the tense forward-leaning posture lend the figure a powerful expressiveness. The Squall or Winter Girl is one of his well-known themes, reflecting the modern image of women in the interwar period. Partial loss of patina and bumped. Expertise: Authenticity certificate Elliot-Stevens Ltd., New York, 2003. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia. CITES marketing certificate is available. Please note that due to the current CITES regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell objects, unrestricted trade is only permitted within the European Community. An export license is required for shipment to third countries. Please inform yourself about the current import regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell in your country. It is currently not possible to export ivory to the USA, Canada or England. This item is not legal to sell in the UK.
