Description
CLAUDE MICHEL CLODION 1738 Nancy - 1814 Paris (Follower) 'NYMPH AND SATYR' Bronze, dark patina, on a naturalistic plinth. H. 42, W. 32, D. 24 cm; inscribed 'Clodion' on the front; a comparable version was also produced by Paul Comoléra (1818-1897). A fully modeled, mythological group in the Bacchic tradition, featuring a scantily clad nymph seated on a rock and a goat-legged satyr kneeling at her feet, turning towards her and reaching for her foot. Part. bumped and rubbed, loss of paint, stress crack in the drapery.
