Description
ITALIAN SCULPTOR Active in the 19th/20th century MONUMENTAL BOY IN PRAYER (AFTER AN ANCIENT ORIGINAL) Bronze, dark patina, on square plinth. H. 135, W. 54, D. 60 cm. Unsigned, 'A' on the chest. Heroic nude representation of a young boy with his arms raised and slightly open in a classic prayer gesture. His gaze is directed upwards, his facial features calm and idealized. The figure is clearly based on ancient models of Roman and Hellenistic sculptures, in particular depictions of praying youths or orants. Partial loss of patina, repaired and restored, traces of oxidation. Literature: See Lehmann: Der Betende Knabe in Berlin, In: Antike Welt 6/2024, pp. 55-65. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
