DEMÉTRE HARALAMB CHIPARUS 1886 Dorohoi - 1947 Paris 'LES AMIS DE TOUJOURS'* circa 1928 Chryselephantine, bronze, gilt patina and polychrome finish, face and hands carved from ivory (CITES DE-M-220930-183), on an onyx base (H. 6 cm). H. 41, W. 42, D. 12 cm, weight approx. 12.63 kg. Inscribed 'Chiparus' on the base, marked 'Made in France' on the back of the robe, numbered '106' and foundry mark 'E.N. Paris J.L.. Finely crafted representation of a girl with two greyhounds / Borzois. The girl wears a stylized Art Deco dress, with two dogs standing at her sides, which she lovingly strokes. This composition is one of the best-known works by Chiparus, who specialized in elegant, dance-like, and intimate scenes in the 1920s. "Les Amis de Toujours" is one of Chiparus' iconic works, capturing the delicate connection between humans and animals in the Art Deco style.
