LÉON NOËL DELAGRANGE 1872 Orléans - 1910 Bordeaux 'LE PAGE ROYAL' (also 'LIVRE D'HEURES') France, circa 1900 Chryselephantine; bronze with gold patina; face, hands, and book of hours carved from ivory; set on a stepped onyx base (H. 2.5 cm). H. 21.5 cm, W. 7 cm, D. 5 cm; weight approx. 0.85 kg. Unsigned; an identical version by Léon Delagrange exists. A fully modeled figure of a young woman in a quiet, restful pose, wearing attire reminiscent of the medieval or Renaissance periods. Standing in a calm, frontal posture, she holds a book-specifically a book of hours-in front of her body with both hands. Partial loss of patina and signs of rubbing; minor nicks/chips.
