FRANZ XAVER BERGMANN 1861 Austria - 1936 WARRIOR WITH SPEAR Viennese bronze, dark patina, polychrome, on a marble pedestal (H. 10 cm). Total height 27 cm, width 12.5 cm, depth 18 cm, weight approx. 5 kg. Marked 'B' on the back, numbered '3578'. Rare large depiction of a half-kneeling, armored female warrior with spear and shield in a tense pose. A characteristic work from the Vienna workshop of Franz Xaver Bergmann, known for his exotic-looking bronzes. Particularly noteworthy is the rare iconography of a female warrior figure - clearly inspired by ancient images of Amazons, but with Bergmann's typical charm. Partial loss of patina and repaired, figure on the base minimally loose.
