Description
GERMAN SCULPTOR Active around 1900 SAINT VIKTOR OF XANTEN Bronze, brown patinated, on naturalistic plinth (h. 2,5 cm). Overall h. 42, w. 12.5, d. 8.5 cm, weight approx. 8.64 kg. Inscribed illegibly on verso, Luchtenberg collection inventory number 'B/r 68'. Reduced representation of Victor after Master Blankenbyl at the collegiate church of St. Victor in Xanten. Standing on base plate, saint in armor and open cloak draped around him, holding shield with cross in his left hand and a lance in his outstretched right hand. Part. rubbed and loss of patina, min. dam. and traces of oxidation, between hand and lance min. dam. Provenance: Luchtenberg Foundation.
