FRANZ IFFLAND 1862 Berlin - 1935 ibid LARGE STANDING WARRIOR Bronze, dark patina, on an ochre plinth and octagonal marble base (H. 7 cm). Total H. 110, W. 38, D. 22 cm. Inscribed 'Iffland' on the plinth. Heroic depiction of a warrior standing in a slight stance, head raised, holding a branch aloft in his left hand, while his right hand rests on his shield. The muscular, idealized body and the classical pose reveal the influences of ancient hero iconography. Partial loss of patina, bumped and rubbed, arm restored. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
