EDME DUMONT 1722 Paris - 1775 ibid. (after) LARGE BRONZE FIGURE 'MILON OF CROTON' Bronze, dark patina, on a square plinth. H. 76, w. 40, d. 38 cm. Inscribed 'Dumont' on the plinth, after the original by François Dumont in the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, Louvre, 1768. Fully sculpted depiction of the Greek, athletic wrestler 'Milon', splitting a tree trunk with his hands. Part. Loss of patina, dam. and rubbed. Literature: Cf.
