CLAUDE MICHEL CLODION 1738 Nancy - 1814 Paris (attributed) THREE 'CHILD BACCHANTS WITH A PANTHER Bronze, dark patina with partial gold-toned highlights, on a round plinth. H. 31, W. 26.5, D. 22 cm; weight approx. 8.5 kg. Inscribed 'Clodion' on the back; attributed to Claude Michel Clodion or a later follower. A fully modeled, dynamic group featuring three playing child bacchants (or putti)-some adorned with vine leaves-and a wild cat or panther (a characteristic companion animal of the god of wine). Part. bumped and rubbed, loss of painting.
