VALENTIN EUGÈNE DEPLÉCHIN 1852 Roubaix (Nord) - 1926 Thiais (Seine) 'AMPHITRITE' Bronze with brown patina, on a round plinth and marble base (H. 2 cm). Total H. 27 cm, W. 9 cm, D. 9 cm; weight approx. 1.6 kg. Titled 'Amphitrite' on the front, inscribed 'E. Deplechin' on the plinth, and numbered '107 56235' on the back. A fully modeled depiction of Amphitrite, the ancient sea goddess, as a standing female nude atop a dolphin. The bronze is based on Depléchin's famous marble statue from 1893, currently housed in the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille. Part. rubbed and bumped, loss of patina, casting seam visible on the arms.
