FRENCH SCULPTOR Active around 1900 ALLEGORY OF POETRY / APOTHEOSIS OF POETS Bronze, dark patina, on naturalistic plinth (H. 2 cm). Total height 30, width 42, depth 15 cm, weight approx. 10.11 kg. Allegorical representation of poetry and the apotheosis of poets. The female figures are to be interpreted as muses and bear the classical attributes of poetry, including lyres and books. Listed on the tablet are Homer, Virgil, Dante, Tasso, and Camoens as the great representatives of epic literature from antiquity to the Renaissance. Minor loss of patina.
