MARTIN SCHAUSS 1867 Berlin - 1927 ibid. CARITAS ROMANA (FAUN WITH HER CHILDREN) Bronze, dark patina, on a stone base (H. 6 cm). Total H. 47, W. 35, D. 25 cm. Signed 'M. Schaußs' and 'Paris' on the back of the plinth, marked 'Martin Schaußs' on the front of the base. Three-dimensional representation of a nursing faun with goat legs, her breast shaped for nursing, her children sitting on her lap and at her side, as an allegorical interpretation of Caritas Romana. Martin Schauss depicts the ancient motif of selfless, maternal care in mythological form. Partial loss of patina and bumped. Provenance: Private collection southern Germany.
