Description
JOSEPH-CHARLES DE BLEZER 1860 Ghent - 1930 Paris MELANCHOLY (SEATED WOMAN WITH ROSES) Bronze, dark patina, on rectangular plinth (H. 1.5 cm). Total H. 31.5, W. 28, D. 10.5 cm, weight approx. 6 kg. Marked 'JC De Blezer' on the back of the stool. Fully sculpted representation of a young woman in a thoughtful, introverted pose. She holds loose rose petals in her hands, while a bouquet of roses rests on her lap. The lowered head and calm gesture lend the depiction a melancholic expression. Iconographically, the scene can be interpreted as an allegory of lovesickness, with the falling rose petals symbolizing fleeting love. Partially bumped, loss of patina and minimal traces of oxidation on the plinth.
