ERICH SCHMIDT-KESTNER 1877 Berlin - 1941 Nordhausen am Harz ACHILLES WITH SPEAR Bronze, dark patina, on naturalistic plinth and marble base (H. 3 cm). Total H. 57 cm, W. 52, D. 24 cm, weight approx. 15.6 kg. Inscribed 'E. Schmidt-Kestner' on the plinth, foundry mark 'Akt. Ges. von H. Gladenbeck & Sohn' on the back. Heroic depiction of the ancient warrior Achilles in a dynamic pose, spear and shield raised, with a muscular, tense body. Partial loss of patina, repaired and chipped. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
