EINE KLEINE VIERSEITIGE NEZUMI-SHINO SCHALE

A SMALL FOUR-SIDED NEZUMI-SHINO BOWL Japan, late 16th/early 17th century Stoneware. H. 5.4 cm, W. 12 cm. The bowl is of a low, four-sided form with indented corners, set on a round, recessed foot. Crafted from a hard stoneware body, it is fully covered in a crackled, slightly porous, mouse-grey glaze. The exterior is decorated with freely brushed white slip and motifs revealed through the grey glaze (sgraffito-style), featuring grasses, a net pattern, and trees on hills. Accompanied by a wooden box inscribed "Nezumi" (in katakana) and "Shino kaku bachi" (square bowl), as well as a silk cloth. With traces of age and use.
