EINE KARATSU-CHAWAN (TEESCHALE)

A KARATSU CHAWAN (TEA BOWL) Japan, early 17th century Stoneware. H. 7 cm. The deep bowl is of kusu-gata form, covered with a greenish glaze stopping short of the foot, and repaired with kintsugi (gold lacquer) and a fine wave design in gold hiramaki-e. With traces of use and age, partially damaged and restored. Provenance: Acquired in 2005 from Erik Thomsen (Bensheim). A copy of the original invoice is available.
