EINE GROSSE KURO-ORIBE-TEESCHALE (CHAWAN)

A LARGE KURO-ORIBE CHAWAN (TEA BOWL) Japan, early Edo period Stoneware. H. 7.9 cm, D. 16.7 cm. The bowl, of irregular kutsu-gata form, rests on a broad, uneven ring foot and is covered inside and out with a black glaze, the base and foot left unglazed. On the exterior, a white-glazed reserve is decorated in iron-grey with intersecting linear motifs. It is accompanied by a brown lacquered wooden box and a shifuku.. With traces of age and use; a small hairline crack to the rim. Provenance: From a private collection in Düsseldorf.
