Description
A SOAPTONE CARVED STANDING FIGURE OF SHOULAO China, late Qing Dyansty Soapstone. H. 28 cm (31.5 cm with base). The god of longevity is standing on a separate base in form of rock, holding a gnarled staff in his left hand. With traces of use, partially chipped. Provenance: From the collection of the German Indologist Hermann Jacobi (1850-1937), acquired in China in early 20th century, then by descent within the family.
