ORNAMENTAL MANTEL CLOCK WITH ZEUS France, Paris, Julien Le Roy (1686-1759), c. 1740 Ebonized wood, gilt bronze, enamel, glass, brass, steel. 101 x 57 x 28 cm. Movement inscribed "Julien Le Roy a Paris" and numbered "108". Shaped, ebonized case featuring lavish floral bronze mounts and mask ornamentation, a vase finial, and a fully sculpted figure of Zeus with an eagle. Ornamental sound apertures on the sides. Behind a glazed door lies a gilt ornamental dial featuring enamel plaques with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, as well as Breguet-style hands. Areas of craquelure and cracking; some minor damage/nicks; functionality untested; includes pendulum.
