FIGURATIVE PENDULUM CLOCK 'THE LESSON' France, Nancy, Ferdinand Kauffer (1852-1891), circa 1880 Bronze, gilt, marble, glass, metal, steel. 38 x 45 x 17 cm. Inscribed on the dial 'F. and Kauffer Nancy'. Multi-tiered base with gilt bronze fittings. Fully sculpted figures of a student and his teacher in antique-style clothing, leaning over a book. Behind a glazed door, a black dial with engraved Roman numerals and ornamental hands. Partially damaged and chipped; function untested; without pendulum and key.
