ZWEI SAKRALE FIGUREN: DIE HEILIGE DREIFALTIGKEIT' UND 'DER HEILIGE WANDEL'

TWO SACRED FIGURES: 'THE HOLY TRINITY' AND 'THE HOLY FAMILY' South German, 18th century. Limewood, carved in the round, polychromed and gilded, flattened at the back. H. 26/27, W. 16/17, D. 6/7 cm. The Holy Trinity: God the Father depicted as a bearded elder with a scepter and a triangular halo, beside Christ with a cross and a radiant halo. Both are enthroned or seated, resting their hands on the globe (*mundus*) positioned centrally between them. Above, the Dove of the Holy Spirit appears before a radiant halo. 'The Holy Family' (*Der Heilige Wandel*): a depiction of the Christ Child walking between the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, led by the hands by both figures. Joseph holds a walking staff. Minor chips and damage; losses to the polychromy and rubbing to the gilding.
