Description
ORNATE COAT OF ARMS OF THE CARMELITE ORDER German, 18th century. Linden wood; carved in high relief with openwork detailing, polychrome finish, and rich gilding. H. 38, W. 61, D. 10 cm. Oval cartouche featuring the coat of arms of the Carmelite Order (*Ordo Carmelitarum*): a stylized Mount Carmel surmounted by a cross and three stars against a blue background. Surrounded by a magnificent, dynamic Baroque cartouche featuring openwork acanthus foliage and volutes, as well as two sculpted putto heads. Topped with rising ornamental motifs. Minor chips and damage, losses to the finish, signs of restoration, and rubbing to the gilding. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
