MONUMENTAL FIGURE OF CHRIST BLESSING Likely German, 18th century or earlier Linden wood, carved in the round; flattened and hollowed out at the back; mounted on a base. H. 168, W. 65, D. 50 cm. An impressive, life-sized depiction of the standing Christ in a slight *contrapposto* stance, wearing voluminous robes with deeply undercut, animated drapery folds. His right hand is raised in blessing, while his left hand is held against his chest, over the heart. The expressive face, inclined slightly downwards, features long hair rendered in bold strands and curls, and a finely modeled beard. Signs of wear; shrinkage cracks; some damage and repairs, particularly to the hands. Provenance: Private collection, Rhineland.
