MEMENTO MORI HEAD AND SKULL Germany or Austria, 19th century Wood, carved in the round, polychrome finish, on a gilded base. H. 20, W. 12, D. 15 cm; weight approx. 0.5 kg. An expressive Memento Mori sculpture depicting a finely carved male head on the left side and a skull on the right. This striking composition follows the tradition of Baroque vanitas symbolism, serving as a reminder of the transience of life. Minor damage and rubbing to the gilding.
