GROUP OF FOUR FIGURES: SAINT JOHN NEPOMUK AND THREE DEPICTIONS OF THE VIRGIN MARY Southern Germany, Alpine region, Spain; 17th/18th century. Wood, carved in the round or in high relief, polychrome finish with partial gilding. Heights: 20, 35.5, 27.5, and 33 cm. Standing Virgin Mary in long robes and a veil, carrying the Christ Child in her arms; traces of an earlier polychrome finish in red, blue, and earth tones. Praying Virgin Mary with hands clasped before her chest, wearing a deep blue mantle decorated with gold-colored stars. Virgin of the Immaculate Conception standing on the globe with a serpent, symbolizing the triumph over sin and evil. Saint John Nepomuk in clerical attire, wearing a biretta, rochet, and cassock.
