HOLY BISHOP WITH BOOK Southern Germany, probably 1450/1460 Linden wood, sculpted, stained, flattened and hollowed out on the back, on a pedestal. H. 63.5, W. 21, 12 cm, weight approx. 2.35 kg. Bishop figure in a solemn pose, depicted in full regalia with mitre and book. The expression on his face is calm and contemplative, at his feet is a smaller kneeling figure - possibly a penitent. Partially preserved and damaged, one hand is missing, woodworm infestation.
