SAINT CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA Flemish or Lower Rhenish, 16th century Oak, carved in the round, dark-stained, flattened at the back. H. 100, W. 31, D. 16 cm. Depiction of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in courtly attire featuring a fitted bodice, square neckline, and long, pleated skirt. She wears a crown on her head, and the head of the vanquished Emperor Maxentius lies at her feet. Partially chipped and damaged; restored; traces of original polychromy; hand holding the attribute is missing.
