DEATH WITH LANTERN AND SCYTHE German, 18th century and later Wood, sculpted, polychrome. H. 115, W. 48, D. 32 cm. Allegorical representation of death in a robe with a lantern and scythe, typical attributes of Baroque vanitas and memento mori symbolism. The lantern refers to the uncertain end of life, while the scythe symbolizes the sudden "cutting off" of life. Partially bumped, loss of material, rest.
